A brain aneurysm is a weak spot in the blood vessel wall within the brain. It’s also known as a cerebral aneurysm or intracranial aneurysm. The majority of aneurysms have no signs and are not even severe.

A brain aneurysm is a severe condition that can strike someone at any age. Aneurysms do not always burst, but if one does, it is a medical emergency that can result in a stroke, brain injury, or even death if not treated quickly.

An aneurysm in the brain can take one of two forms:

1) Fusiform aneurysms enlarge a blood vessel on both sides.

2) Saccular aneurysms only have one hand that bulges.

The size of the bulge determines the chance of rupture.

Cerebral aneurysm

Intracranial aneurysms are aneurysms in the arteries that provide blood to the brain. They’re also known as “berry” aneurysms because of their shape.

A cerebral or intracranial aneurysm is a narrowing of the inner blood vessels caused by an irregular expansion of an artery in the brain. This vessel expands into a blister-like extension that can burst without notice.
